The Student Leadership Program (SLP) offers high school students a once in a lifetime opportunity to grow as leaders and prepare for their future. Through SLP, students will explore their community, discover career pathways at major businesses, and develop essential work-ready power skills that will help them land their dream job.

Kickoff

Kickoff

Kickoff officially begins the new year of SLP each fall. Kickoff includes a motivational speaker as well as high-energy and interactive workshops and exercises focusing on career exploratory and leadership development growth.

Explore Session

Explore Session

Students participate in the Explore Session during the school year at a Dallas business. During the Explore Session, students tour the hosting business to learn about career opportunities, company culture and educational requirements for specific careers. Students also participate in hands-on workshops focusing on specific work-ready power skills.

Program Completion Celebration

Program Completion Celebration

The SLP Program Completion Celebration is the official conclusion of the SLP year that includes a keynote speaker, adviser and student awards recognition and SLP Graduation Ceremony for participants.

Keys to Success

The Student Leadership Program is hosted in Dallas Independent School District, Gulfstream and businesses and non-profit organizations in the Dallas area. After Explore Session learning experiences, career and industry tours, and guidance from community and teacher mentors, students will have the keys to success for life after high school and future planning.

SLP Student Commitment

The Student Leadership Program (SLP) is a partnership between Gulfstream and Dallas Independent School District aimed to expose students to career opportunities in Dallas and develop students’ personal leadership and work-ready skills. Being selected to be in SLP is an honor and privilege. Students admitted to the program will remain in the program throughout their sophomore, junior and senior year of high school as long as they meet the SLP Commitment Requirements. Failure to meet these requirements may result in removal from the program. Students in the program must commit to the following:

Being present is critical for students to be engaged and learn through the experiences offered in SLP.  Students in the program can miss no more than two events per year.  If a student misses more than one event in a year, they will be dismissed from the program.

Since SLP takes place during the school day, it is important for SLP students to maintain good grades since they will miss instruction time to attend SLP.  Students who have a grade in any class that is lower than a C for more than two nine-week periods will be dismissed from the program.

SLP is a leadership program to promote and demonstrate positive leadership actions.  As a member of SLP, students should abide by the school code of conduct.  If the student violates any portion of the code of conduct, it will be up to their principal whether they can continue in SLP.

At all SLP events, engagement and participation are important to personal growth. At SLP students are expected to be respectful to others in paying attention during tours, workshops and assemblies, not using their cellphone and/or earbuds and headphones.
